Services Exam Pre & Main Syllabus -2016

Section I 

The Competition Examination comprises two Successive Stages

(1) (i) Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination (Objective Type) for the selection      of candidates for Main Examination.

(ii) Civil Services (Main) Examination (Written & Interview) for the selection of      candidates for the various services & posts.

(2) The Preliminary Examination will consist of two papers of objective type     (MCQ) & carry a maximum of 400 marks .This examination is meant to serve       as a screening test only.

    There will be negative marking for incorrect answers for all questions, One- third (0.33) of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as        penalty.

(3) The main examination will consist of written examination and an Interview Test. The written examination will consist of 9 papers of conventional essay type in the subjects. Out of which 2 papers will be of qualifying in nature.

Section II

    Syllabus and subjects for Preliminary and Main Examination.

A) Preliminary Examination: - There will be of two compulsory papers of 200   marks each.

Important Note :- (i) Both the question papers will be of the objective (MCQ).

(ii) The
General studies paper – II of the civil services (Pre) Examination will be qualifying in nature with minimum qualifying marks fixed at 33%.

(III) The question papers will be set both in Hindi & English.

(B) –Main Examination: - The written examination will consist of the following 9 Papers.

The Preliminary Examination Subjects & Syllabus

Paper - 1

1. General Science
 2. General issue on environmental ecology, Biodiversity and climate Change.
 3. Current event of national and international importance.
 4. History of India and National movement. 
 5. Indian polity and governance, political system, constitution, panchayati raj, public   policy,      rights     issues etc.
 6. India and world geography. Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the world.
 7. Economic and social development, sustainable development, poverty, demographic,          social sector.

Marks - 200 
 Duration - 2 Hours 



Paper - 2 

1. Decision making and problem solving. 
 2. General mental ability.
 3. Logical reasoning and analytical ability.
 4. Comprehension 
 5. Interpersonal skills including communication skills 
 6. English language comprehension skills (X level) 
 7. Basic numeracy (Number & their relation, order of magnitude) (X- Level) 
 8. Data interpretation (Charts, Graphs, Tables, Data sufficiency) X - level 

Marks - 200
 Duration - 2 Hours

(One of the Indian languages to be selected by the candidates from the languages including in the eight schedules to the constitution).___________ 300 marks.
